Ready to take your social media job postings from drab to fab in four easy steps? 🙋♂️🙋♀️
I’ve got you covered. Here are the four social media job posting photo basics that will not only get eyeballs on your posts but leave a lasting impression of where they came from...keep reading! 👀
Hey everyone, it’s Tom Sye your Police Marketing FTO, and this week, we’re talking about social media job postings and the four photo basics that yours must have to start converting eyeballs into applicants. ✔️
This is a topic I haven’t talked about in quite some time but is very important when it comes to your police recruiting and an area I see so many agencies struggling with when trying to promote their job openings on social media. Literally every single day I see agencies loading up their job posting pictures with a ton of information in them or no branding whatsoever leaving everyone to guess who the post is from. We’re gonna fix that for you right here. 🙌
Here are the four social media job posting basics you need to implement starting today…
Element 1: Attention grabbing photo
Remember…you’re gonna have at most, two seconds to initially grab a social media users’ attention when they’re scrolling through their feed…clearly, that’s not a whole lot of time so you better make sure your photo gets the job done. ⌛
This is not the time to load it up with every detail of the job posting…that’s the caption’s job. You just want to simply post something that is going to grab people’s attention and get them to stop their scroll. 💥
Police agencies can accomplish this in two steps. ✌️
Step 1: Use a photo that is bright, bold, and in glorious high definition…no blurriness or pixelation when zoomed in. 🔆
Step 2: A smiling face. Again, you’ve got a very short window here to convey a message…do you want to feature grumpy Gus, or the stoic tactical Tom decked out in his SWAT gear ready to go to battle as the first impression of your agency, or someone who looks like they’re actually happy to be working for you? 😁
Element 2: Add your logo
If you forget everything else I’m talking about today, remember this…your logo is your brand and your brand is everything when it comes to marketing! It should be on every single post that you make. 💯
Consistently posting your logo helps to build familiarity and trust. People who are familiar with you and trust you like you. And those who like you will subconsciously stop scrolling whenever they see that logo to check it out. Put it in every post you make, in the same place…every time. 👯♀️
Element 3: Clearly list the position that is open
The job title of your opening should be large and in charge right there for all to see. The goal of your photo is to simply try and draw the attention of people who may be interested in a position with your agency. These are not people, who right in this very moment, are looking for details of a job…so you don't need to list every benefit and qualification in the picture itself…again, that’s for the caption. 🎣
What you're fishing for are people who are waking up first thing in the morning or killing time at work scrolling social media when all of a sudden, they see your post and say oh yeah, I'd like to be a whatever position you're advertising…let me check this out. Don’t make them guess as to what you’re hiring for. They won’t care to try and find out. 🤷♂️🤷♀️
Element 4: List your website
I can't believe how many police employment related posts I see that don't give someone direction on where to go to apply . This may come as a surprise if you’re not aware, but not every social media site allows you to post a clickable link and some of them alter the link name leaving people to believe that it's a LinkedIn page for example and not your page. 😕
I’ve also seen a lot of agencies abandoning posting their website name recently in favor of QR codes on the picture. If that's you…I've got two pieces of advice for you…stop and it! ✋
Most people and I mean percentages in the eighties are scrolling your feeds on their phone or tablet which means they can't scan the code if they're using the phone or tablet to look at the post unless they know to press down and hold the QR code to make the address pop up. But how many people really know that they can do that? Did you? 😳
Now…for those of you who are on a desktop right now let me ask you this…are you really going to pull out your phone scan the QR code and start applying on your device or you simply going to go to the website in a new tab on your computer and do it that way? See what I’m saying? 😎
QR codes are great for posters, pop-up displays. and job fairs. Social media job postings…not so much. Make sure to display your website address plainly and consistently. Applicants should see that address so many times in their feed they now know it by heart. 💭
