Tired of racking your brain up to the last minute when trying to come up with something to post on social media? Yeah...not fun. What you need is a content calendar, and I’ve got the 3 C’s to make sure yours is an effective one...keep reading! 👀
Hey everyone, it’s Tom Sye your Police Marketing FTO, and this week, we’re talking social media content calendars and how you can build an effective one that will keep you on track in attracting those high-quality police officer applicants. 📆
Look, I’ve talked about content calendars for a while now and even give you free ideas every single month to help fill yours up, but if you’re still not using one to help with your police recruiting efforts, quite frankly, you’re simply not serious about filling your vacancies. Yes, a content calendar is that important. 💯
So, if you’re finally ready to start building one for your agency’s social media channels or are just looking for some help in improving the one that you have...here are the three C’s to an effective social media content calendar that delivers. 💪
The first C is...Consistency
Whatever your post rate is, and that means how many times you’ve committed to posting on social media either per day or week, consistency is the key to both building an audience and a relationship with people who may be interested in your agency. 🤩
Being consistent allows your audience to learn what to expect from you. If you get your loyal fans, the ones who are going to like and share your posts to their entire network, or interested potential applicants, the lifeblood of your future, to get used to seeing things from you at certain times, they’ll start looking for them and build a routine around it. If you’re all over the place...that’s never happening. 🤷
So, if you’ve committed to post three times a week...plan on posting three times a week. On the same three days at the same time of day. If it’s every day at 8AM, write 8AM on every day of the calendar. If it’s every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, highlight those days on the calendar so you know that’s the day you need to come up with content for. Plan it out, even if it’s obvious, and never miss it. ✍️
The second c is...Creative
Law enforcement agencies are steep in tradition and for the most part, that’s a really cool thing. But for some reason, we also always see ourselves as having to be a certain way just because we’re cops or representing a police department. Not a cool thing. 👎
If you want to start winning with recruiting...you’re going to have to get creative. And that means finding fun things to post about, like celebrating national days, making videos and shorts that show your employees as they are, having fun in the real world, and, as crazy as it seems, even talking to your audience in ways they wouldn’t expect from a traditional police post. 🤯
Don’t be afraid to throw some memes and less serious things on your content calendar to help lighten the mood. You social media feed doesn’t need to be a comedy club, mind you, but it should show some signs of life.
And the third c...your content calendar must be...Clear
For your social media content calendar to really work for you...it must, beyond anything else, be incredibly clear. Be very specific in writing down exactly what you intend to post on each certain day of the week. Don’t just write ‘meme’ or ‘job opening’...write ‘Good Will Hunting meme to promote laterals’ or ‘Detention Officer opening, and the date range your accepting applications through’. This way, you’ll know exactly what you’ll be posting on that exact day with no uncertainty in your plan. 🎯
I like to try and fill in as much as I can on my calendar at the beginning of each month although I’ll leave some room for unexpected things each week. I do this because, if I plan on using a meme or posting one of our new hires three weeks from now, I’m never going to remember what or who it was that I was going to post if I don’t write it down...and with everything going on in your life and all the nonstop changes of pace we see every single day in recruiting, neither will you. 🧠
Save yourself from yourself, write it down, and be very clear. 🦸♂️🦸♀️
There you go...the three c’s of an effective social media content calendar. Keep these three in mind as you’re filling in yours and watch how much better your content becomes and how much your engagement and conversions soar! 🚀
